A Family Friendly Community
Multiple Generations Call Buffalo Lake Home
Our city was established in 1881 and was named after a small lake north of the city limits. Large herds of buffalo roamed the area giving both the lake and our town our names. In the 1920's our lake was drained by Renville county as part of a massive ditch campaign designed to drain marshlands. This provided us with additional acreage for farming.
From our meager beginning a vibrant community has developed. Today, Buffalo Lake residents enjoy a great quality of life that includes public schools, clubs and organizations, parks, churches, annual events and activities as well as a strong agricultural and business presence.
Buffalo Lake offers many employment opportunities within our vibrant business community. Other employment opportunities are present in the many surrounding communities that include Hutchinson, Glencoe and Olivia, Minnesota.
We hope as you look to relocate your family that you will become part of ours. Buffalo Lake, Minnesota is a great place to call home.
